The Dirty Thirty is a list of 30 chemical ingredients that may be linked to cancer. Many have been banned by the European Union on suspicion of their toxicity. What you may not know is that many of the biggest manufacturers of these products reformulate without these chemicals for the European market, but continue to manufacture with these potentially dangerous chemicals for the US market. Thanks to Teens for Safe Cosmetics who surveyed over 500 teens about the products and brands they use daily. They then worked with a chemist to investigate the ingredients for potential harm to our health. View the list »

Get to know your farmer. More and more pesticides, herbicides, additives, preservatives, growth hormones are being used. Avoid when you can. If any food is eaten in excess…ie peanut butter…buy organic. Pesticides can accumulate in a child´s body. Any fatty foods hold onto pesticides more than other foods and so fat should be trimmed from animal products. Likewise, fruits and veggies with soft skin can allow pesticides to permeate making washing less effective.

BPA has even been linked to insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. Never use plastic containers in the microwave. Scratches hide bacteria and can leach chemicals into your food.

Natural Household Cleaners


Lemons
The acid in lemons can help to remove dirt and when mixed with salt is great for scouring pots and pans. Put a half of lemon down your garbage disposal to clean it. Put a 1/2 cup in your laundry rinse cycle to brighten whites.


White Vinegar
Distilled White vinegar can help inhibit the growth of mold, mildew and some bacteria. You can use it to clean your coffee maker, to disinfect your dishwasher, clean your drains and wash your floors and countertops....WITHOUT the use of any toxic chemicals!!! (never use vinegar on marble, granite or wood)
